The Story of MaxOver

I’ve loved the game of baseball for as long as I can remember, and I played as long as I could—first in high school and then as a walk-on at Wichita State University (under-powered RHP) for one fall season. Now I get to share that passion with my two sons who have both played competitively through high school. (We tried introducing softball to our two daughters—they weren’t as keen on it.)

A few years ago, I was watching my youngest son’s practice, and one of the other dads, a sales rep for a global sporting goods company, started telling me about the tees they were using in the batting cage.

“Do you think you could make a better one?” he asked.

I thought back to the work I had done after graduating with a mechanical engineering degree from WSU. For four years, I was part of a team that designed fuel control systems for the F-22 program. Then, I became the 13th employee at Garmin, where I worked for 15 years and gained valuable experience leading a group of engineers designing products for harsh environments.

I happened to have a 3D printer and a SolidWorks workstation I had bought for consulting I had done in the past, and I also had a lot of experience designing tooled parts similar to what would be needed for a batting tee. So I had everything I needed to take up the task.

“Yeah, I think I can,” I replied.

To be honest, it has been far more difficult than I expected to design a tee that can hold up for years while being smacked by major league players. Tees used by the best need to be strong enough to handle the pounding of a 100-mile-per-hour swing and flexible enough not to break under that pressure. I’ve enjoyed the challenge, though, and believe MaxOver Tees live up to the task.

As a company we are dedicated to serving our customers well. The return rate on our tees is extremely low—far less than 1%—and we continually make design improvements so that we can keep providing the highest quality of products.

Thanks for dropping by, and let us know if there is anything we can do to serve you better. We always welcome customer feedback.
